2019-2020 Calendar

Orientation- Thursday, August 29th  
Orientation for grades 1-5
will be held from 1:30-5:30.  Student and parents should report to their assigned class to visit and meet their teacher.

Kindergarten orientation will be held at 1:30 in the cafeteria.
Early Start orientation will be held from 3:00-4:00 in the classrooms.

Is there before and after school child care at Booker T. Washington Elementary?
To help families who have work hours different than school hours, Suffolk Public Schools has several on-site before- and after-school programs. These programs are operated independently of Suffolk Public Schools, and charge tuition.

Is there a dress code?
The School Board and Suffolk Public Schools Staff rely heavily on parents and students to support the division’s policies. One of the fundamental purposes of school is to provide an appropriate environment for learning. A student will maintain personal attire and grooming standards that promote safety, health, and avoid unnecessary disruptions.

Suffolk Public Schools is committed to identifying, developing and challenging the gifted student.

Are breakfast and lunch served at Booker T. Washington Elementary? How can I pay for my child's meals?
If BTWES qualifies for the Free Breakfast/Lunch grant this year, there will be no cost for students.  If not, the following applies:
Menus will be available online at https://spsk12.nutrislice.com/.
You can pay for meals online at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/.
You can apply for free and reduced price meals at https://www.heartlandapps.com/District.aspx.
Meal prices for 2019-2020:
Lunch- $2.00
Reduced- $.40
Breakfast- $.85

What is my child's bus stop?
New students will fill out a student transportation form when you register. 
Returning students do not need to fill out a form if their physical address has not changed. Students who currently use an alternate pick up or drop off location will need to fill out an new transportation form. 
For returning students and new students who have registered by August 23rd, student bus stop assignments will be available on Orientation Day.  
After August 26th, newly registered students and those with address changes will have bus passes issued on September 9th to begin in the afternoon.

Can I monitor the location of my child's bus?
School Bus Tracker monitors the location of school buses as they travel their routes across the city. By connecting to the Parent Portal, you can see how close the bus is to the bus stop. Register at https://busportal.spsk12.net/livepp/par/showRegistrationForm.par.

Are there any resources for military families?
We recognize that military-connected students need guidance from understanding school administrators, staff, and teachers. For that reason, the school division's Department of Student Services works closely with the area's military school liaison officer.
