Ladies of Distinction at BTWES!

W. I. T. (Walk In It, Inc.)’s Director, Jennell Riddick, will facilitate The Ladies of Distinction Program, which is designed to help our 4th and 5th grade young ladies discover and operate in their full potential.  The ladies are taught how to develop and maintain high self-esteem, make healthy decisions, handle peer pressure, set and reach goals, overcome obstacles, and more.  The sessions will last approximately 30-40 minutes on Mondays, during their resource time.

Girls on the Run Program

Hello Booker T. Washington Elementary School Parents,
I wanted to take a moment to let you know about the Girls on the Run program we are going to be offering at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in the fall. We would like to invite your daughters to participate in this fantastic program.

Girls on the Run is a 10 week program for girls from the ages of 8-12 years old (3rd-5th grade) designed to promote positive self-esteem, build character and confidence, as well as strengthen peer relations through running. The curriculum also has a physical fitness component that includes games and running workouts. We use the term “running” loosely; girls can run, hop, skip, or walk if they choose!
The 10 week session will begin the week of September 29, 2015 and will conclude with a Girls on the Run 5K (3.1 miles) for everyone on December 12, 2015 at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk. Shelby McHaney, Lindsey Woodruff, TeeAnna Guillen, and Christinia Escalante will be coaching.
Online registration will be available August 31, at 8am. Registration will be on a “first come, first served” basis We can only accept 15 girls. If your daughter is interested in the program, she must attend two sessions a week in order to participate. The program fee is $35 which will included: a healthy snack at each practice, a t-shirt, an entry to the 5K at the zoo, a running tag, and a metal. If you are concerned about your ability to pay the registration fee, you are invited to go tohttp://www.gotrshr.org/get-involved/resister-your-girl and click on the financial aid section of our website.

We are very excited about this program! It is about fun as much as it is about fitness and learning to make good choices. We invite you to visit the Girls on the Run website www.gotrshr.org. Please let me know if you have any questions.
