Federal Impact Aid Parent Survey Cards Equal More Money for Schools

Federal Impact Aid Parent Survey Cards Equal More Money for Schools

To clear up some parent questions about the green forms sent home with students on November 4:

  • EVERY student needs to return a completed and signed green form
  • It might mean all that applies is filling out the student’s name, address, and school.
  • Don’t forget to sign the form and return it to school as soon as possible.

Every year, Suffolk Public Schools applies for Federal Impact Aid funds from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are to compensate the school division for the loss of local tax dollars on tax-exempt federal property. Funds received from Federal Impact Aid are used for basic education programs district-wide.

Suffolk Public Schools received about $360,000 in Federal Impact Aid funding each year.

Suffolk Public Schools will distribute Federal Impact Aid Survey Forms with a November 4, 2015 survey date.  This year, the forms are green.

Parents need to complete and sign a form for each child, and return it to the school by December.

The forms have changed this year, there are three sections: 1. Civilians, non-military who work on Federal property;  2. Active duty uniformed services; and  3. Foreign military.

It is imperative that parents fill out a separate form for EACH child attending Suffolk Public Schools. Please be accurate and consistent when filling out multiple forms. It is essential that the forms be filled out completely with an original signature of the parent/guardian. The information provided is used ONLY to determine federal Impact aid allotments and is not shared with any other source.

Federal property and military locations include Naval Air Station Oceana, Naval Air Station Norfolk, NASA Langley Research Center, Naval Regional Hospital (Portsmouth Naval Hospital), Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Fort Story, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, NOAA Ship Base, and Coast Guard Reserve Training Center.
